Dinners and Goodbyes

Day 5 of summer vacation and the latest I have woken up is 7:45.  Sleeping in for a teacher! :)

Saturday evening we hosted Dinner for 8, which turned out to be dinner for 9.  Tad made one of his signature dishes, paella.  The last night of our honeymoon we went to a Spanish restaurant in Carmel.  Both of us were familiar with paella and curious to try it.  It was AMAZING!  A couple months later, back home, Tad began craving more paella.  But Spanish restaurants aren't super common, or cheap, so he found a recipe and made it himself.  His version is also quite delicious.

Our guests were a couple and single lady we hadn't met before, a young couple we regular say hi to, but don't know well, and the senior pastor and his wife (no pressure right?).  It was a delightful evening.  Our guests brought drinks, a salad, French bread, and key lime pie to go with the paella.  Everyone raved about both the paella and the key lime pie (the leftovers to which are currently in the fridge).

Sunday we attended the weekly family dinner at Grandpa's retirement community.  He has a one bedroom apartment with a great kitchen.  The dining room is also fantastic, but they are closed on Sundays.  We had roast, ashed potatoes, and more key lime pie (which Mom had brought).  After dinner we played  arousing game of Trivial Pursuit.

Yesterday I went for another walk and worked on a Bible study in the morning/afternoon.  Tad and I attended a going away Happy Hour for my coworker Diana.  She has been the RSP teacher at my school for the last 4 years and she and I have become close.  I'm very sad to see her leave.  Her husband got a new job opportunity on the east coast, where they are from originally.  The happy hour was at Islands and a number of teachers from our school attended, as well as some of her neighbors and past coworkers.

Today has been a rather tiresome day working on moving and arranging the garage so we can actually park inside once more.  I'm looking forward to the fair and a show at the moonlight amphitheater later this week.

Life at Perkins

Things at Perkins have begun to look up. Since my midterm review, my supervisor has been giving me a lot more feedback and assistance, which is greatly appreciated. I'm also starting to be a lot more confident about my sessions, which only helps.

I no longer feel like I'd be miserable working in a school. I've begun to pay closer attention to job postings sent to us and am compiling a mental list of where I plan to apply. Thus far, I have 3 school districts, a private practice, and a pediatric position at a hospital. The fantastic thing about what's open right now, is that a lot of it is up in North County, exactly where I want to be.

58 days til graduation, and it cannot come soon enough!

As a P.S., Tad is on the job search and prayers would be appreciated. He has n interview tomorrow for a position at Sharp (where I was last semester) and is really hoping it goes through. :)

Career Minded

100 days from today, I will have graduated with my master's degree, yay!!!! But that brings up an interesting question.

What now?

The original plan (upon entering grad school, and even before) was to work in the school district I went through. I could live near my parents and be in a good school district. perfect! Then I had my internship last semester at Sharp, which I loved. I got a bit confused then, but working in that program is not an option, there are no open positions. I figured then that the plan must still be the same.

Now I have started my school internship, and I don't love it. In fact, I far from love it. I have a supervisor who has done minimal teachin, heck minimal supervising, and I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing with most of the groups I'm working with. Not only that, I love the artic kids, and the preschoolers, and that's it. I have become very frustrated and discouraged there. No one likes feeling like they're not good at something, especially if it's what they had been planning on doing as a career.

Now I'm left wondering where God's path for me is leading. I wish I could just say "well there you go, I'll work at CREP". I hate the waiting game. I'll jus thave to wait and see where I'm meant to go. And hope that the current placement gets better, cuz I'm there for another 8 weeks.

Therapeutic Ranting

we'll see if it actually is therapeutic or not. in any case, it won't be anything particularly enjoyable to read

I'm so flipping frustrated right now. I'm mad, frustrated, discouraged, and tired. I have a presentation in Spanish in about an hour and a half, and my presentation sucks. I was all excited about my topic, which I had talked to the prof about, and then someone else wanted to do the same one. He suggested one of us do a different part of the book we were interested in. Wanting to be nice, I said I'd do the other part, only to find that there is NO INFORMATION on it, ANYWHER

I don't understand why a professor would suggest a topic that he SHOULD know there isn't information on. Where am I supposed to get this from, pull it out of a hat???? So thanks to lame-o presentation topic i have a lame-o presentation which I'm not excited about. I'm also not excited about anything else today, tomorrow, this week, or in life right now. I just don't care. I'm so done with homework. All I do anymore is homework, EVER

I want to crawl somewhere and not come out. But I can't, I have to go give a lame Spanish presentation.
